New at the cinema this weekend
The 2019 animated reboot The Adams Family, which had bugs – “you know what doesn’t fix them?” we remember thinking at the time “continuation”. But here we are again. This time we are offered a ghost image of the emo movement’s most famous family on the road. Unfortunately, based on the trailer, it looks like much of the baggage that caused the first film’s enthusiastic reception has gone with them. It’s a strong voice, and the animation style matches the content – but our beef with the original, and what we can see from this sequel, never was and isn’t about that. It’s more concerned with the shallow plot line and dialogue that tried too hard to revive and honor the comedy of the original 60s sitcom. .
