Yas Island’s successful campaign featuring Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh has seen a surge in visitors, particularly from India, leading to strong growth in Abu Dhabi’s tourism industry this year, an Emirati businessman said.

“We saw a good number of tourists from different countries. India’s recovery is much, much faster. I believe we will grow compared to 2019. I am amazed at the growth of the Indian market in the last few months. I expect higher numbers in the coming months,” said Mohamed Abdalla Al Zaabi, CEO of Miral, unveiling the company’s new brand identity, which aims to take the travel industry to new heights.

Miral, Abu Dhabi’s leading creator of immersive destinations and experiences, launched the Yas Hai Khaas (Yas is Special) tourism campaign with Ranveer Singh, who was named brand ambassador for Yas Island earlier this year, and other initiatives such as Yas, Yas Baby’ and American actor Kevin Hart promotions, named Chief Officer of Yasin Island.

“With our campaign, we have tried to diversify as much as we can. India was always at the top of our list, GCC, Europe and Russia are our main markets. In Europe, mainly Great Britain and Germany are at the top of the list.

Talking about the huge footfall from India and Singh, who is a successful brand ambassador, he said, “Ranveer Singh is amazing. We have a very close relationship. The impact of the campaign was amazing and it was reflected in how quickly the number of tourists from India picked up. We are growing in this business. I believe , that the effect will continue for years to come.”

Al Zaabi noted that Singh has “the same value” as Yas Island.

“Yas Island is full of energy and happiness. Ranveer has the same value. He is the right person to introduce Yas Island to the Indian market, which is a very important market for us. We see people coming to enjoy their time, whether for a week or longer. We look forward to working with him. “

As an example of the arrival of tourists to the island, Al Zaabi revealed that the WB Abu Dhabi Hotel, which opened only a year ago, recorded a 90 percent occupancy rate during the school summer vacation period between July and August.

“I am amazed at the performance of this hotel (WB Hotel). It reflects how strong and robust the tourism sector is in Yas Island and Abu Dhabi.

Overall, strong demand has led to a strong recovery of 90 percent from the international market and 120 percent from the local market compared to 2019.

“The trend is very positive. We are very optimistic about the coming quarter.

New brand identity

Al Zaabi unveiled Miral’s new visual identity at an in-house event that included a unique metaverse activation that mimics the new campaign. Miral announced three subsidiaries under a unified brand: Miral Destinations (formerly Experience Hub), Miral Experiences (formerly Farah Experiences) and Yas Asset Management.

“We believe that Abu Dhabi has the right foundation for the tourism industry. We are on the right track to take it to the next level. We thought now is the right time to put all our efforts under one umbrella, to be more active and take a bigger role in the tourism industry. That’s why we decided to rename the group.”

Miral’s new logo is inspired by the theme of connecting and enriching. The three lines of its logo represent Miral’s three pillars: people, community and environment.

“It’s a very exciting time for Miral and Abu Dhabi.”

Founded in 2011, Miral has been responsible for the development and management of Yas Island. It is home to Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, Yas Waterworld Abu Dhabi, Warner Bros World Abu Dhabi, CLYMB Abu Dhabi, Etihad Arena, Yas Links Golf Course, Yas. Mall, Yas Marina Circuit, Yas Marina and 10 hotels, including WB Abu Dhabi Hotel and Hilton Abu Dhabi Yas Island, located on Yas Bay, Abu Dhabi’s premier beachfront location. Construction of Miral’s flagship development, SeaWorld Abu Dhabi, is expected to open to the public next year. And Saadiyat Island has two ongoing projects: TeamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi and Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi.

Three new projects coming soon

Al Zaabi said that up to three new projects will be announced in the coming months.

“More is coming, in the pipeline. They are very interesting projects. They will play a role in taking the tourism industry to the next level.”

The island has a busy calendar of events, especially at the iconic Etihad Arena.

“Just imagine, we had lockdown last year and this year in less than 12 to 18 months we literally have an event calendar every single weekend.”

More than 30,000 fans watched the recent ‘Disney On Ice’ event hosted at the Etihad Arena, and NBA Abu Dhabi and UFC 280 were both sold-out sporting specials.

“This reflects how strong the tourism industry is here in Abu Dhabi and our reputation in the local and international markets,” he said, noting that the MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions) sector was “doing very well”.

Other major events coming soon to the island include Middle East Lion King show debut, Formula 1 Grand Prix, National Day celebrations, Triathlon World Cup finals, AR Rahman concert etc.

Taking innovation to new heights, people will soon be able to enjoy the island in the metaverse as well.

“This is one of the areas we need to explore. That’s why we decided with our partners to test this new idea and in the future to proactively use this platform to raise awareness of the island so they can experience the island virtually before they visit.”
