Talking to reporters on Saturday, Sangha President Ajith Kumar Rai Maladi said the sangha has been celebrating achievements from various fields. “Our daughter has qualified for Miss Universe and it’s great. So we decided to pursue it,” he said.

Convener of the sangha’s Sri Ramakrisha Vidyathini Bhavan, Shalini Shetty, said that only a few Bunts are qualified for the prestigious Miss Universe event. “Qualifying for this prestigious beauty pageant is great. As people praise his birthplace, we are proud to celebrate him,” he said.

Veena T. Shetty, a member of the sangha, said that Ms. Divita came from a family in Thiruvail. Daughter of Dilip Rai and Pranita Rai, Ms. Divita studied in Mumbai. She recently judged Liva Miss Diva Universe 2022 and is qualified for the Miss Universe pageant.

Ms. Shetty said that Ms. Divita has taken a short break for Miss Universe preparations and is visiting Mangaluru and Udupi on September 6 and 7. The Sangha has decided to felicitate her in a traditional way on September 6.

Ms. Divita will be brought in a procession from BR Ambedkar Circle to SM Shetty Hall on Bunts Hostel premises where the felicitation program will take place. “This event will showcase the Miss Universe pageant’s support that Ms. Divita enjoys in her hometown,” Ms. Shetty said.
