DCT – Abu Dhabi’s MAKTABA opens the “Cultural Figures” exhibition | Job Binary

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates: MAKTABA has opened an inspiring exhibition at the Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism (DCT Abu Dhabi) that tells the story of some of the greatest pioneers of Emirati, Arab and global literature and culture.

Organized in cooperation with Dubai Culture, Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, “Cultural figures” is on display at the Al Wathba Library in Abu Dhabi until November 30, 2022. The exhibition opened with a live painting session by the prominent cartoonist Hassan Idlebi for Iraqis. musician and oud player Naseer Shamma.

After a tour of the exhibition, participants joined a session during which authors Nadia Al-Najjar and Ahmed Al-Assam discussed the development of the UAE’s cultural life. Visitors also received an autographed copy of Youssef’s Room, a book by author Ahmed Al-Assam. Musicians from the Bait Al Oud Music Academy then performed Naseer Shamma’s compositions and a song based on Nizar Qabbani’s poems.

Shaikha AlMehairi, Managing Director of DCT Abu Dhabi Library, said: “MAKTABA works hand-in-hand with various cultural authorities across the UAE and is constantly working to organize artistic events that enrich the cultural life of Abu Dhabi. Through the Cultural Persons exhibition at Al Wathba Library, we aim to inspire and educate our visitors about some of the world’s with the stories of the best artists of all time, while showcasing Abu Dhabi’s own unique culture, ideas, experiences and shared landscape of opportunities.
