(Pocket-lint) – Netflix has already dipped into the world of gaming through its mobile and TV app, but now it’s ready to move on to triple-A PC gaming.
The company, which cut its teeth on DVDs before becoming the big content streaming outfit it is today, is said to be ready to hire a game director to work on a “new AAA PC game” at a new LA studio. That Netflix studio will be headed by Chacko Sonny, previously in charge of Overwatch.
As for what that game will look like, the job ad suggests it wants someone with “experience with FPS and/or third-person shooter games” with live service and social system experience. N00bs needn’t apply, however, as Netflix wants someone with “at least 10 years of game design experience, including experience as a Creative Director, Game Director, or equivalent design leadership role.”
The new game is believed to be free of in-app purchases and will live behind a Netflix subscription, meaning it may not even be available as a standalone purchase. If those triple-A expectations turn out to be on the money, that could be a real pain for non-Netflix subscribers who want to see what all the fuss is about.
The PS5 is finally here – these are the games you need to pick up for it.
This isn’t the only indication that Netflix sees itself as a gaming company, either. A new studio has already been established in Helsinki, Finland, and the company recently acquired Spry Fox after also acquiring Next Games and Boss Fight Entertainment.
