PAN Aadhaar Linking Deadline March 31: The last date to link PAN with Aadhaar is March 31. If you fail to do so by March 31, then face several consequences. Pan-Aadhaar linking is mandatory for those eligible for Aadhaar number and eligible as residents. Notably, a resident individual who has resided in India for 182 days or more in a year preceding the date of application for Aadhaar enrolment.

Penalties for not linking PAN with Aadhaar

If PAN is not linked with Aadhaar before the due date, then hosts of penalties await individuals. Under Section 234H of the IT Act, failure to link PAN with Aadhaar will attract a fine of Rs1,000.

Further, a penalty of Rs10,000 is imposed under Section 234F of the IT Act for non-filing of returns of income.

“Earlier, there was no penalty provision in the rules regarding Aadhaar PAN linking. As per the new law, failure to link the two IDs will invalidate the PAN, which means one cannot carry out financial transactions that require PAN details. These include filing income tax returns and opening bank accounts. Also, the said person has more TDS amount may be payable, along with penalty 10,000 as per Section 272B of the Income Tax Act if the person fails to enter the PAN as and when required.” He said providing an invalid PAN would result in a penalty. 10,000. How do I link PAN with Aadhaar?

a) Open the Income Tax e-filing portal –

b) Register on it (if not already done). Your PAN (Permanent Account Number) will be your User ID.

c) Log in by entering User ID, Password and Date of Birth.

d) A pop up window will appear, prompting you to link your PAN with Aadhaar. Otherwise, go to ‘Profile Settings’ in the menu bar and click on ‘Link Aadhaar’.

e) Details like name date of birth and gender are already entered as per PAN details.

f) Check the PAN details entered in your Aadhaar on the screen. Please note that if there is a mismatch, you should correct the same in any documents.

g) If the details match, enter your Aadhaar number and click on the “Link Now” button.

h) A pop-up message will inform you that your Aadhaar has been successfully linked to your PAN
