If you had a successful company, would you give it away?
That’s the question most people are asking themselves after hearing the latest news about Hobby Lobby’s CEO.
Hobby Lobby is an arts and crafts store. They have tons of options for everyone, including home and seasonal decor, cards, fabrics, accessories, and more. I always admired how they closed on Sundays and how their employees had the day off.
David Green is CEO of Hobby Lobby and has made a shocking announcement
David Greene is the CEO of Hobby Lobby and his latest announcement has people shocked and confused. He chose to leave Hobby Lobby and chose God instead.
According to Fox News, Green stated,
“Patagonia’s founder recently made a breakthrough when he relinquished ownership to preserve the company’s mission and purpose…I went through a similar decision-making process with the ownership of Hobby Lobby; I chose God. We want to be in charge. What God has given us, and that’s the difference”
Hobby Lobby and Patagonia are dedicated companies
While some people understand where Greene is coming from, others choose to question him. Loyal customers also wonder if they can still shop there.
What will happen to Hobby Lobby stores?
USA Today reported in December 2021 that Hobby Lobby workers were planning to raise the “full-time minimum hourly wage” to $18.50 starting in 2022.
According to Fox News, Green has “transferred 100% of the Company’s voting stock into a trust where ‘control’ can pass from one person to another.” All the voting shares are 1% in his trust, and he is managed and managed instead of seeing us as owners.”
David Greene is doing this to honor God and his faith
Green does all this to honor God and his faith by freeing him from the burdens that wealth can create.
Fox News also elaborates on the information about Green.
He also said, “Wealth can be a curse, and in many cases, if you dig deep into it, wealth is a curse in terms of marriage, children, and things of that nature; that’s why we run our company, that’s why our children come to work and earn what they earn … it’s a paradigm shift from ownership that can destroy families.”
Green wants God and community to do right
He advises business owners and leaders to find their truth as he found it through prayer and Bible reading.
Greene has a book called Giving It All…and Getting It Back.
In this book, Green describes how important family and family values are. In his book, he concluded that “Work is not a curse, it is our calling.”
