Pipelines of the world,

October 26, 2022 was an important day for UAE shipping when the region’s first class-built unmanned surface vessel (USV) entered the water. The 12m Blue Essence USV was launched at Mugharraq Port and sailed to its new home in Al Mirfa, Abu Dhabi by Fugro’s UAE Control and Command Centre. Al Mirfa Port will be home to the Fugro Pegasus for the coming months and will be a key hub for Fugro’s remote and autonomous operations in the UAE.

This vessel is part of Fugro’s global fleet of USVs and electric remotely piloted vehicles, operated from a network of remote operations centers around the world.

Fugron’s Blue Essence USV sets a new standard for subsea inspection solutions that require no offshore crew, reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 95% and enable real-time visibility, faster data processing and data delivery.

David Washbrook, Head of Marine Asset Integrity Middle East and India: “Fugro has been working closely with local authorities and partners in the region to define regulations and legislation for remote and autonomous vessels. We are proud to say that this collaboration has resulted in the region’s first unmanned survey vessel in the water and adds an exciting new chapter to Fugro’s future in the UAE.
