Illustrations of Warrior, a new character released by Nexon on Thursday (Nexon)
South Korean game developer Nexon’s Dungeon & Fighter Mobile has been ranked among the top 10 mobile games in the country’s two largest app markets — Google Play and Apple’s Appstore — for seven consecutive months since its launch in March.
The game is the mobile adaptation of the company’s hit PC game released 17 years ago, which had 850 million registered users worldwide and $18 billion in cumulative sales. It also became the only South Korean title to make Statista’s top 10 free games of 2020, according to the game’s developer.
Nexon has attributed the success of the mobile game to the unique tricks and features it introduced exclusively to the mobile version, while still maintaining the general outline of the original PC version.
The company on Thursday unveiled the first single character of the mobile version called Warrior. Although only available on the mobile version, the character gives familiarity to users of the original PC version, as it includes a story based on the Storm Pass region that PC players often use.
The mobile game has also included special character abilities, cinematic videos and illustrations, and remastered some of its soundtracks.
The graphics have also been updated. The game has a higher resolution while keeping the original 2D point graphics.
Meanwhile, Nexon said that a lot of effort was put into maximizing the user-friendliness of the game interface. The joystick was made to be customizable, and the game can also be enjoyed on other platforms such as gamepads and keyboards via Bluetooth connectivity. The user interface adapts according to the platform, the company added.
“Even in a mobile environment, we thought that building the best gameplay system was the most important factor for users to enjoy Dungeon & Fighter Mobile,” said Ok Sung-tae, head of development at Neople, Nexon’s game developer. subsidiary
The mobile title was awarded “Game of the Month” by Korea Creative Content Agency in July.
